Donald Trump Isn’t Going Anywhere Anytime Soon
He’s a master of disaster.
“There’s just something not right about this election.” That’s what my relatives say. They’re life-long Republicans, the kind of people who cry and pray over school shootings. They voted for Trump, twice.
They won’t admit it.
They remain strategically silent because they know it might cost them access to their grand kids. It’s not about difference of opinion or shared values anymore. We simply don’t know if we can trust their judgment in the world that’s coming, or the one that might already be here.
If you want a dose of reality, consider that while 61 percent of Americans accept the election results, 72 percent of Republicans don’t.
That number has been growing, thanks to Trump.
It’s all he needs.
Donald Trump has merged politics and reality TV.
Say what you want about him, but Donald Trump has an infuriating way of turning defeats into victories.
He’s been doing it his entire life. He’s turned a career potholed with bankruptcies into a business empire.
It’s almost genius.
Trump did this by leveraging the super skills in his tool belt, and they all involve perception. He’s a terrible business leader, but he’s great at playing one. Now that he’s in politics, he’s not going away. His entire vision has been to merge government with reality television.
He’s an awful president, but he’s great at playing one. He’ll be even better at playing a president in exile.
Donald Trump wants to be escorted out.
Everyone’s been debating whether Trump will leave office and allow a peaceful transition of power. That’s the wrong question. The real question is what Trump plans to do after.
Honestly, nothing about this transition has been peaceful. Trump has guaranteed confrontation and violence. If anything, he benefits from making it look like he was forced out.
Come January 20th, you can bet on some optics. Trump will be escorted out by Secret Service agents, because he wants to be.
It’ll make him look good.
It’ll help him dominate the ratings one last time as president. It’ll leave a lasting image seared into everyone’s memories.

Donald Trump’s support remains strong.
By this point, it’s pretty clear that Donald Trump has no plans to fade from the public spotlight like Mitt Romney or John McCain did.
He won’t ever concede victory. Not only that, but he’ll spend the rest of his life insisting he won. Think about it. He’s never admitted to being wrong once in his entire life. Ten years after the fact, he still won’t even acknowledge Barack Obama’s birth certificate.
Trump will never stop. He doesn’t know how.
He’ll be leaving office with a sizable base of support. His mob of deplorables will continue donating their savings to his piggy bank and committing acts of violence in his name. They’ll fund his next bid for president. We know he’s going to run. If he doesn’t, one of his family will.
Maybe Ivanka?
A large number of Republicans will continue to kiss Trump’s ring, because he holds the keys to a giant voting demographic. Even if he’s out of office, Trump will still influence politics.
He’ll do it for one simple reason.
Politics is power.
Donald Trump isn’t going to prison.
Don’t misunderstand, Donald Trump should go to prison. He’s broken countless laws involving corruption and abuse of power. His last year in office was one gigantic act of sedition. His response to the pandemic has criminal indifference and eugenics written all over it.
That said, he can’t go to prison.
Why?
It will tear the country apart. He’s got a third of the population worked up into a frenzy over election fraud, including a bunch of militias and lone-wolf nut jobs with guns and explosives.
Putting Trump in jail won’t save democracy, even though we all know he’s guilty of crimes against humanity. Criminal prosecution of Trump will make Democrats look like blood thirsty tyrants. It’ll make him a martyr. It’ll be read as an open invitation to civil war.
Besides, Team Biden is going to have their hands full fixing our broken government. They don’t have the time or resources to plunge America into yet another partisan bloodbath.
So yes, Trump is going to get away with a lot.
The media loves Trump too much to let him go.
It sounds cynical to say this, but it’s true. No mainstream news media outlet is ever going to stop covering Trump. No social media platform is going to ban him, or take any substantive action against his tweets.
He makes them too much money.
Consider that CNN was even planning to offer Trump a show back in 2016, assuming he lost the Republican nomination.
So everyone will continue doing what they’ve done, pretending to condemn Trump’s brand of politics while giving him exactly the access and means to an audience that he needs.
Of course, you can’t make the media solely responsible for our current situation. They simply broadcast what Trump says. We’re the ones who have to decide what to think about it, and how to respond.
Maybe it’s not right, but it’s fair.
Donald Trump is a savant at disaster.
It’s debatable how “smart” Donald Trump is. He’s a complete failure when it comes to actually running a company, or a country. And yet he still manages to outsmart so many people.
He doesn’t seem to fully understand what his true talents are, making a huge mess and turning catastrophe to his advantage. He’s great at tearing things down and redirecting fallout.
You could say Trump is generally ignorant, but brilliant at a handful of things — and just capable enough to use them.
In other words, he’s a savant.
He’s a disaster artist.
That’s what makes Trump so hard to deal with. His biggest advantage is that you can’t predict what he’ll do next.
There’s a few things to be grateful for.
This sounds like a pretty grim scenario. We’re talking about an ex-president who’s committed atrocious crimes, which he’ll never pay for. He’ll continue to wield power and influence. There’s even a small chance that he or one of his kin will wind up in office again.
At least we’ll get a chance.
For the next four years, we have an opportunity to focus on what really matters. That would mean restoring our healthcare system and building back the economy in a way that works for everyone. It would mean creating a society that once again rewards trust and empathy.
It wouldn’t be that hard. The only problem is trying to convince other people how to be decent human beings. Maybe you can’t. Maybe all you can do is live well and protect what you care about.
It’s worth it.
